ORBIS™ Lifestyle

The holidays in 2020 are already telling us that they will be different to the ones of past years. Due to the current pandemic of covid-19, it can become difficult to live the holidays in 2020 in a healthy way.

However, we are here to give you a guide, based around our 6 pillars, to make sure that one can try to be the healthiest possible, despite the changes that everyone’s lives had to go through in the past year.

In this blogpost, we will go through ways to better each pillar during the 2020 holiday season.

Nutrition during 2020 holiday season

During the holidays it is usually a struggle to maintain a healthy diet, as family members meet to eat a lot of delicious, but a lot of times unhealthy food. However, even if sometimes it is important to “feed the soul”, being mindful of the amount of chocolate one is eating, how many cookies and cupcakes one is having, it is important to be aware of what goes into the body, making sure to not overdo the unhealthy foods.

In addition, during this pandemic, family reunions need to be done with caution, making sure to protect the most vulnerable and ourselves. Therefore, it is important to sometimes “feed the soul”, have things that the heart might need, in moderation.

We suggest having everything in moderation this holiday season. 2020 has been an unpredictable year, and it is important to take care of our physical as much as the emotional health.

Exercise during 2020 holiday season

Another difficult pillar to maintain constant during the holidays can be exercising. It is sometimes difficult to take that extra time to take care of our bodies and provide it the movement needed, due to the stressful times of preparations. Therefore, during this holiday season, one should not put their expectations past their breaking point. We suggest you getting out of your comfort zone, but do not overwork yourself. May it be a light walk or run in a park or in the neighborhood, yoga, pilates or even a HIIT workout.

Therefore, get out of your comfort zone this holiday season!

But do not overwork yourself, take some time to take care of yourself and stretch, do some cozy yoga, and spend time with your body and your breath too.

Stress management during 2020 holiday season

Tying to our previous pillar, stress management has got to become a priority during the holiday season, especially during this unpredictable year. Breathing techniques, taking a mindful walk outside, reading a relaxing book or listening to a self-growth podcast. All these things can help reduce the stress levels during the holiday season. Listening to Christmas music can also help. Maybe dance your stress out? We suggest that too!

Relationships during 2020 holiday season

Finding the time to see loved ones can be difficult this holiday season, especially as we all try to be safe, keep people safe and follow the rules put in place by our countries’ leaders.

One positive thing has come out of this unpredictable year, we have begun depending on the opportunities of technology more than ever.

This can be helpful to us still during the holiday season.

Keep in touch with loved ones through the use of technology!

Have a hot cocoa night with your friends through Zoom, FaceTime grandparents, have a baking session with your siblings. These are only a few ideas of what can be done with people you cannot see during this time.

Of course, you can also spend time with the people who currently live in your household, decorate together, wrap presents together and have baking and cooking sessions too!

Anti-aging during 2020 holiday season

Taking care of your mind and body is so important during the holiday season. Especially due to the cold and winter approaching, the skin and our body in general is in need of moisture and, especially, water.

It can be difficult to drink the recommended amount of water when it’s cold and we do not desire anything not warm. We recommend drinking teas and warming your water up a little bit, which makes it better our stomachs too.

Be sure to moisturize your skin as well, to provide elasticity and decrease the aging of skin cells.

Environment during 2020 holiday season

Taking care of the environment around you can also be challenging during the holidays. Having low waste in the kitchen and with gift giving season can be difficult. Again, being mindful is key to better this pillar during the holiday season. Try to take trips walking or taking a bike instead of using the car and, since there is not much traveling due to restrictions, it is a great time to take a moment to use less public transport, take more walks and bikes more often than ever before.

Let’s be the safest possible during this holiday season by focusing on our mental and physical health. It is so important to not let the world and other people around us control our life. Putting yourself first, through our pillars and your own personal interpretation of the situation.

Happy Holidays!
